LEVELS OF SCI CARE IN GENERAL HOSPITAL WARDS 1

Tuesday, May 11th, 2010

A new discussion forum with the above title is currently running and would benefit from some SCI Link-Worker input. Read the discussion on the SIA website: http://forum.spinal.co.uk/Default.aspx?g=posts&t=726 . Think you can inform the discussion with your own experiences as a SCI Link-Worker? Then register for free and join in the debate with your own opinions!

SIA are also promoting a new questionnaire to get data on recent experiences of SCI people cared for in general hospitals. SCI Link-Workers are routinely providing the SIA website link to relatives and patient’s as a means of accessing early peer support and knowledge about living with SCI. Now there is a page dedicated to the newly injured SCI patient and their family:

Do you think your team are making a positive difference to your patient’s hospitalisation outside of a specialist centre? SIA are also surveying current SCI patient experiences of general hospital care so if your patient tells you how much they appreciate your efforts you can now point to the link to the questionnaire at: http://www.spinal.co.uk/news/district-general-hospitals and they can tell SIA as well.

SPINAL CORD INJURY UK & THE NATIONAL SCI CARE PATHWAY

Tuesday, May 11th, 2010

The work of the original All-Party Parliamentary Working Group ended when this parliament was dissolved to allow for the election of a new government. However, their cross-party work has ensured that the next government will ensure the continuity of a National Care Pathway for SCI patients. In addition, the current UK SCI professional associations and charities are being brought together into one umbrella organisation called SCI UK. One of the first jobs of SCI UK is to organise and host the 51st Annual Scientific Meeting of The International Spinal Cord Society (ISCoS) in London in 2012.
