Times newspaper columnist Melanie Reid sustained a traumatic tetraplegia after falling from a horse in April 2010 and was airlifted from the scene to the Scottish SCI Centre. As part of her personal strategy for coming to terms with her paralysis she began documenting her post-injury care and early rehabilitation experiences in the Times Magazine. She began dictating her column while still lying in a hospital bed:
